Hi Paul,
Did you check the "sliders" in the preferences? Application - CPU
Priorities can make a big difference for clients, not completely sure how it
effects process on the server, but it might be worth experimenting.
I'm not sure how your setup, but if you don't have more than 4GB of ram on
your server you might try assigning less ram to 4D. I've noted much better
performance with 1GB assigned to 4D than with 2GB on a box with only 4GB of
ram.
